The South Milwaukee Fire Department is creating an eligibility list for the position of Fire Fighter.  An application packet may be downloaded from this web site. There are several components to the application packet.  Please make sure the packet is complete before turning it into the City of South Milwaukee Administration Department.  Print out all the forms (Application Information, Job Description, Job Posting, Application), read them, and check the packet for completeness.  The completed packets should be turned into the Administration Department at the address below:

FIREFIGHTER / EMT

CITY OF SOUTH MILWAUKEE

STARTING ANNUAL SALARY $49,466.00 (2011)

Applications are now being accepted to create an eligibility list for the position of Firefighter/Emergency Medical Technician. To be qualified, you must be at least 18 years of age, a United States Citizen, and possess the following: a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record; high school diploma or equivalent; Wisconsin or National Registry EMT-Basic Licensure (EMT-Advanced [Paramedic] Preferred); Wisconsin Firefighter I Certification (Wisconsin Driver/Operator-Pumper Preferred) or equivalent training (training from outside Wisconsin must meet State of Wisconsin requirements); Associate Degree in Fire Technology or related field (Police and Fire Commission will determine relevance of related field) OR One or more years experience as a Firefighter within past five years and a valid Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) Certificate (within one year prior to April 27th, 2012).
CPAT Certificates will be accepted until 3:00pm on Friday, June 1, 2012

Candidates must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays on a 24-hour shift and have an ability to handle several tasks simultaneously; perform essential functions of this position; and use all standard firefighting and emergency medical equipment. Successful applicants will be required to pass a written test; oral interviews; thorough medical and psychological examinations; and will be subject to a complete and thorough background examination to determine suitability.
